As a licensed psychologist, I am legally and ethically obligated to protect private information collected from individuals who utilize my services. Use and disclosure of your protected health information (PHI) is protected by the Health Information Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) as well as various state and local laws.
Information provided to me may be used to deliver services or seek medical care for you. In certain circumstances, disclosure of your confidential information without your express consent may be mandated by law.
These situations include, but are not limited to:
- Child abuse or neglect
- Elder or dependent adult abuse or neglect
- Threat of significant harm to yourself
- Threat of significant harm to the person or property of someone else
- Administrative or judicial hearings in which I am presented with a court order to disclose information.
