Happy 2-1-1 Day!
February 11 is officially "2-1-1" Day here in California to recognize and raise awareness of this valuable community resource, available to residents here in Los Angeles County, including Santa Clarita and surrounding areas.
So what is 2-1-1? If you were not aware of it already, 211 is a free information and referral service available by phone throughout Los Angeles County or online at www.211la.org. Advisors are available 24/7 to assist callers with finding community services to meet various needs, such as health issues, mental health issues, education, employment, legal and financial assistance, just to name a few. Services are provided in both English and Spanish, and translators are available for over 140 languages.
Another great service now being provided through 2-1-1 is care coordination and developmental screening for infants, toddlers, and preschoolers. Parents of children between ages 0 and 5 can complete a series of questions by phone with a trained advisor to see whether their child's development is on track or whether certain issues need further attention. Depending on the results of the screening measures, advisors will help connect parents with appropriate community services to provide additional testing and intervention services.
Many home, office and cellular phone providers allow for dialing 2-1-1 toll-free from any phone in the Los Angeles area. If you are unable to get through by phone, troubleshooting instructions and a searchable database of service providers are available on the website.
